Maria began her journey at Duke Animal Hospital as a Ward Assistant in the winter of 2016, and her growing skillset led to on-the-job training to become a Technician Assistant. A proud Chicago native, Maria divides her time between the clinic, working at a doggy daycare, and hosting events as a venue host. She is a devoted dog and reptile enthusiast who shares her home with two dogs, Chicharron and Canelo, an orange cat named Sazon, and Lt. Dan—a legless bearded dragon with internet fame rescued by Dr. Duke.

Maria loves learning new skills every day and providing exceptional care to our patients. Outside the clinic, she enjoys dog-walking, volunteering at Chicago Canine Rescue, and immersing herself in DC Comics. She’s also the go-to dogsitter for many of the staff’s pets, who adore her welcoming, pet-friendly home.
